Situated in the space that was once Kelly’s in upper Fells Point, Johnny Rad’s Pizzeria Tavern has been decked out with skate graphics and a shiny red bar by owner Steve Ball. The menu specializes in Neapolitan-style pizzas that are thin in the center and have a soft, airy cornicione (or crust). Varieties span from the “A-1 Meats,” a pie topped with Italian pancetta, prosciutto and sopressata, to the “Templeton,” a vegan pizza composed of tomato sauce, olive oil and fresh herbs. Johnny Rad’s offers $5 drafts and 32 varieties of cans and bottled beer. Patrons who get peckish during drinks can choose from bar fare that includes fried edamame, an 8-ounce handmade burger with house-cut Russet potato chips, or vegan spicy black bean hummus.
