In the case of Louie’s Bookstore Café, there is life after death. Taking a cue from the beloved bookseller that once stood within its walls, Ware House 518 has rolled out a new bar concept that pays tribute to the rich history of its Mount Vernon location. “There aren’t many places that stay open late,” says owner Ezra Tilaye, who partnered with Perez Klebahn of Ratio Craft and Beverage to create Louie Bar, a totally separate menu of late-night cocktails and light fare with a literary twist.

“The goal is to be very scratch, developing ingredients in-house from liqueurs to bitters,” says Klebahn, previously of Mr. Rain’s Fun House. No surprise, the resulting menu is fanciful and fun. Look for “Adaptations” of classic cocktails, “Non Sequiturs” (such as the Fox in the Briar, a rye whiskey drink that’s set on fire) and bespoke beverages called “Choose Your Own Adventure,” where patrons can select their own ingredients.

Louie Bar is currently available on Friday and Saturday evenings from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., but Tilaye expects to extend the concept to Thursday through Sunday by spring. 518 N Charles St., 443-869-3382. warehouse518.com
