At Washington, D.C.’s newish Pineapple & Pearls, you’ll find not only sophisticated cuisine, artful coffee drinks and intrepid cocktails, but also a striking work of art by Baltimore-based Jowita Wyszomirska. Located  adjacent to the ultra-popular Rose’s Luxury, P&P opened its restaurant component this past spring (it previously operated only as a small, elegant café in its front room), offering a prix-fixe tasting menu ($250 per  person for food, drinks, tax and tip) served in a stylish dining room that features Wyszomirska’s two-part  19×8-foot abstract wall drawing, “They Rise and Accrete.” Commissioned by Rose’s Luxury/Pineapple & Pearls owner/chef Aaron Silverman, and drawing its inspiration from weather maps, the mixed-media piece combines acrylic paint, markers and 3-D elements such as thread, Mylar and pins to compelling effect. “They were interested in the series of work I was making, creating an inventory of weather maps,” Wyszomirska explains. “What they liked about my work was how it travels.” Make Pineapple & Pearls part of your summer travel plans.
