Pizza Partiers

_dsc8469The buzz that surrounded the opening of Federal Hill’s latest pizzeria, &pizza, included the D.C.-based chain’s clever offer to provide a year of free pizza (one pie per week) to the first five souls who stepped up to have an ampersand tattooed on their skin. Founded by a couple of guys with New York restaurant know-how who decided to have a little creative fun whilst making a little dough, the chain likes to put a regional stamp on all its stores. On the corner of South Charles and West streets, that means a mural by local artist Joshua Van Horne. The company is also known for its random “pizza bombing.” At STYLE, we were deliciously pizza bombed midday, an act that brought staff rushing from cubicles to attack a pile of pies: Hawaiian ‘za with pineapple and salami, the white Gnarlic, a meat-laden Maverick, and the peanut butter-banana Elvis for decadent dessert.
