House Envy: A Confession

Patterson Park—with its happy expanse of green and backdrop of tall, colorful rowhouse mansions—is one of the coolest areas to call home in Baltimore City. Several of my friends happen to live there—I’m a tad envious, I’ll admit—and all have rehabbed their five-story homes into dream dwellings. No big shock that Southern Living named Patterson Park one of the Southeast United States’ “comeback neighborhoods” several years ago.

Jeni Mann, the associate publisher of Baltimore STYLE, and her husband, Mark Tough, occupy an amazing rowhouse on Baltimore Street. Their place is on the upcoming neighborhood tour this Saturday, FYI. My favorite luxurious update the couple has brought to life since moving in during the spring of 1999: a walk-in beer and wine cellar in the basement.

“What I like most about the wine/beer cellar is that we typically will have a nice bottle that we purchased on vacation available to pair with dinner,” Jeni says. “We plan our getaways around what we want to stock the cellar with. Virginia Wine country is next on our list.”

The most romantic spot to sit in their cutie-pie castle: the sky-high rooftop deck that overlooks our city so splendidly.

This Saturday, September 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., peek inside Jeni and Mark’s house and many other storybook lookers on the Patterson Park Home Garden Tour 2016—presented by the Patterson Park Neighborhood Association. Advance tickets are $12, or $15 the day of tour. Visit pattersonparkneighbors.org/hometour to purchase tickets early or buy them at the corner of Baltimore and Linwood Ave. on Saturday before 3 p.m.
