Think PinkWhen Andrea Stieff wanted to raise money for breast cancer awareness— and honor the memory of her mother, Lillian Glorioso, who died of breast cancer seven years ago— her first thought was: shopping. “My mother and I always shopped. Every Saturday was spent on Howard Street,” she says. So that’s exactly what Stieff and Karin Chriss, owners of Bosom Buddy Bags, focused on for their first-ever Mother’s Day Shop for the Cure charity event.

The three-day weekend event, held last May at Stieff’s Roland Park home, brought together 12 vendors— offering handbags, children’s clothes, jewelry and more— for a shopping party, with part of the proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Think PinkThursday night, the torrential rain didn’t stop 200 guests from shopping and mingling as they sipped Southside cocktails and nibbled on hors d’oeuvres. The party continued Friday morning with a “carpool and coffee”— since Stieff’s home is located near many of Baltimore’s private schools, women were “dropping off and dashing over,” says Chriss. By the end of the day Saturday, the event had raised more than $10,000.

Stieff and Chriss are planning to continue the party this year (May 3 to 5) and hope to make it an annual event. “Instead of Race for the Cure, this will be Shop for the Cure, because not everyone can run, but everyone can shop!” says Stieff.  —Bianca Posterli
