Staff writer Kimberly Uslin graduated from Washington College in 2014, where she earned a B.A. in English and Creative Writing and was a finalist for the Sophie Kerr Prize, the nation’s largest undergraduate literary award. After graduation, she attended the three-month Columbia Publishing Course at Columbia University, and has worked in various facets of publishing since: as a journalist for a small-town newspaper, in advertising and marketing at Girls’ Life magazine (where she also served as an online editor and staff writer), and as a fiction and poetry screener for Cherry Tree literary magazine. When she’s not reading, writing or editing, she enjoys attending all sorts of festivals, lectures and performances around Baltimore and hanging out with her fat cat, Tito.

  1. I am contacting you to see if you would be interested in doing a story about a unique horse who lives in Gettysburg.
Metro is a retired racehorse who won 8 races and $300,000 at Belmont and Saratoga until crippling knee injuries ended his racing and riding career. Adopted off the track by myself and my wife, Wendy, Metro who was unable to have a second career as a riding horses began a new career as a painter.
Holding the brush in his teeth, Metro makes bold beautiful brushstrokes on canvas. His paintings are in high demand. Half of the proceeds of his painting are donated to New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program. To date Metro and his art has raised over $80,000 to help retired racehorses find new careers and new homes.
Metro has been featured on The Today Show, People Magazine, Good Morning America, and Oprah Magazine, just to name a few.
Metro’s paintings are available on http://www.PaintedbyMetro.com and at Lark Gifts in Gettysburg.
