Just because “Mad Men” wrapped doesn’t mean we’re ready to give up our love affair with mid-century modern design. Thus, our obsession with this teardrop Hal Lamp—handmade by Slip Lighting in Hickory, N.C.—that combines the sleek elegance of mid-century with a free-wheelin’ ‘70s vibe, evident in the bohemian burlap drum shade. Also available in other sinewy shapes and vibrant colors (we call this one “Partridge Family” green), the ceramic-and-wood lamps can only be found locally at In Watermelon Sugar in Hampden, where owner Lesley Stevenson says it takes several months to get her custom order delivered, but it’s always worth it. Word is, the solo craftsman, “Mark” (doesn’t share his last name), will only communicate with his clients via fax. Talk about a throwback. $133-$246. In Watermelon Sugar. 3555 Chestnut Ave., 410-662-9090. inwatermelonsugarshop.com
