If you think about it, craft brewing may be today’s equivalent of 1980s and ‘90s garage bands: a ragtag crew getting together to make something they love. John Marsh and his pals—Roy Fisher, Jr., Bill Stevenson and others—have been messing with music and art for years.

Turning a home brewing hobby into the Waverly Brewing Company wasn’t a great leap, says Marsh. After all, he points out, making beer is a reasonably simple process.

“We’re never going to make triple IPAs or anything really aggressive,” Marsh says. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t creative. Recent brews included Logan’s Heroes, a wheat ale turned pink from loganberries. And Stout Party was flavored with dark chocolate caramel sauce from Mouth Party across the street at Meadow Mill. Clementine regularly sets up a pop-up concession. 1625-C Union Ave., 443-438-5765, waverlybrewingcompany.com
